UNOLYMPICS.COM RESPONDS (AGAIN)

5/10/2000

Dear Internet Tracing Operative (2),

Thank you for your email. We were sorry to learn that we have offended you, and in fact we were quite offended ourselves by the tone of your communication.

Unolympics.com is a collective of net and media professionals concerned with promoting positive social change. Most of us are not journalists, although we do believe in freedom of expression. Frankly we are amazed at your suggestion that we require either Copyright Control Services or the IOC to "offer us some freedom (to) express our opinions."

We're really quite flattered to hear that our claim that the IOC "crumbled under the might of our legal department" was taken so seriously. It's obviously satirical, and we thought from our earlier correspondence that your team had a sense of humour and would appreciate the irony.

The "Olympic Good Sports Logo" is a most benign adaptation - it promotes your fairness. The paragraph you find misleading is a direct link to your letter, which is reproduced in full and not altered. Anyone who reads the posting will applaud you for your fair play, so in our view our site is generating positive publicity for you and the IOC.

We respect your requirement that the IOC logo is displayed in a "correctly adapted" manner. We created our adaptation to show our appreciation for your fairness, and we would be honoured to add an IOC endorsed graphic to our site if you can provide one.

We have, however, formally apologised for any distress we may have caused you - in fact we have Shamestered ourselves for the offence.

Once again we thank you for your ongoing interest in SHAME 2000.

The editorial team
